POWDERS
Face powders are some of the oldest cosmetics, having been used for centuries. There are different types of powders available on the market so you can find the perfect one for your needs and skin type. Powders are essential for finishing and setting any make-up.
What are powders?
Powder is a very finely ground substance that usually contains mineral and plant-based ingredients.Powders contain substances such as zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, kaolin clay, silk proteins, talc or starch, for example. Their role is to give a matte finish and make the make-up last longer. The composition of powders also includes pigments to correct skin colour. Powders also increasingly contain skincare ingredients and UV protection enhancing ingredients.
Powders and their types
Powders are divided into several types, depending on the criterion we adopt. We have a choice of:
- Loose powders – these are finely ground powders which can be applied with a brush. They are used to set make-up, mattify skin and control shine.
- Compact powders – these come in pressed or baked form. Pressed powders are compressed into one compact mass, while baked powders are baked at a controlled temperature.
- Transparent powders – these are colourless and translucent. They are ideal for mattifying the skin and setting daytime make-up.
- Tinted powders – these contain pigments to even out skin tone or emphasise facial contours. Powders of this type include bronzers.
- Illuminating powders – these contain light-reflecting particles. They are applied to the areas of the face that you want to highlight.
- Mattifying powders – these contain more ingredients that absorb excess sebum. They work well for make-up on oily and combination skin.
- Mineral powders – these are a great alternative to classic foundations. Their lightweight formulas with added moisturising ingredients smooth and condition the skin.
